English-speaking osteopath & manual therapist · Nice, French Riviera

An osteopath in Nice who speaks your language.

Fifteen years of hands-on practice in Paris, Spain and China, now at my clinic in central Nice. Your consultation runs entirely in fluent English (or Spanish), at the clinic or in your hotel room, seven days a week. If you see a chiropractor or a manual therapist back home, a French osteopath is the closest equivalent.

Same-day appointments are often available. You write to me directly, and I reply myself.

Why English speakers come here

You will be understood. Completely.

Describing pain is hard enough in your own language. You should not have to do it through a translation app, and you should understand exactly what your practitioner is doing and why.

Fluent English, not phrasebook English

I lived in England, have travelled widely across the United States, and spent seven years working abroad, five in Spain and two in China, treating an international clientele every day. Tell me what hurts the way you would at home. I will explain what I find, what I am doing with my hands, and what to do next, in plain English.

Training you can trust

Osteopathy in France is a five-year, full-time, state-recognised degree. I trained at CEESO Paris, with anatomy dissection and hospital placements, then completed a sixth clinical year, part of it in a hospital emergency department (ER) near Paris. I am a D.O. and a member of the SFDO, the French osteopaths’ professional union.

Proof you can check in ten seconds

More than 400 patients have left a public review on Google, with an average of 4.9 out of 5, after more than 10,000 consultations. Many are written in English by visitors and expats. Read a few before you book.

Aloïs Ruetsch, English-speaking osteopath and manual therapist, in his clinic in Nice

About

Aloïs Ruetsch, D.O.

I am an osteopath and manual therapist with fifteen years of daily practice and more than 10,000 consultations, and I have spent most of my career working with people who did not speak the local language. I know how it feels to be in pain somewhere unfamiliar. It is the reason this clinic works the way it does.

After five years of full-time training at CEESO Paris and a sixth clinical year, part of it in the emergency department of the Poissy hospital, I left France. In Spain I developed several osteopathy clinics and taught hospitals and clinics what osteopathy could do for their patients. In China I treated a demanding international clientele in a VIP anti-ageing clinic in Guangzhou. I settled in Nice and founded Pôle Ostéo, a multi-practitioner clinic in the centre of the city.

I treat everyone from newborns to elite athletes, including world champions and Olympians, and I work the same way with all of them: careful examination, precise and gentle treatment, honest advice. If you need a doctor rather than an osteopath, I will tell you.

Questions people ask before booking

Straight answers.

Do you really speak English, or “a little”?
Fluently. I lived in England, travelled across the United States, worked for seven years abroad in English and Spanish, and I treat English-speaking patients every day in Nice. The whole consultation, from your story to my explanations, happens in English. There is a short video of me speaking at the top of this page if you want to hear for yourself.
I see a chiropractor at home. Is an osteopath the same thing?
Very similar. Osteopaths and chiropractors are both hands-on manual therapists who work on the spine, joints, muscles and nerves, and in France the osteopath is the everyday equivalent of your chiropractor back home: the practitioner people see for a locked back, a stiff neck or sciatica, after a five-year state-recognised degree. Compared with physiotherapy, a session is longer, hands-on throughout, and aimed at resolving the cause rather than repeating exercises.
Can you come to my hotel?
Yes. Hotel, villa, rental, yacht at berth or your home, in Nice and along the nearby coast. A visit costs €120 with no surcharge for evenings, weekends or same-day requests. Message me on WhatsApp with the name of your hotel and a time window.
Do I need a referral or a prescription?
No. In France you can see an osteopath directly, without seeing a doctor first. If your problem needs a doctor, imaging or a specialist, I will say so and tell you where to go.
Will my insurance pay for it?
Many travel, expat and private health insurance policies reimburse osteopathy; French “mutuelles” usually do too. I give you a receipt (in English on request) with everything your insurer needs. Check your policy for the exact amount.
How quickly can I be seen?
Often the same day. The clinic runs seven days a week, including evenings and weekends, and I keep room for urgent cases such as a locked back or an acute stiff neck. WhatsApp is the quickest way to find out what is free right now.
Does it hurt? Will you crack my joints?
Treatment is precise and gentle. Some techniques involve a quick, controlled movement of a joint, which can produce a click; I only use them when they are the right tool, and never without explaining and asking first. If you would rather avoid them, I work differently.
How many sessions will I need?
For most acute problems, one or two. For older or recurring issues, I will tell you honestly what to expect after the first session rather than booking you into a long course by default.
What should I wear, and how long does it take?
Comfortable clothes you can move in; sportswear is ideal. A session lasts about 45 minutes. Please arrive a few minutes early for your first visit, or have your room ready if I am coming to you.
